Housing Mobility Demonstration: Congratulations to 38 PHAs in 28 cities and regions that applied for the HUD Housing Mobility Demonstration this month! Unfortunately, there is only enough funding for 5-10 of these applications, so we intend to press for more housing mobility funding in next year’s budget. While we await the results of the housing mobility demonstration study, it is urgent that we apply the knowledge we already have and give more PHAs the chance to expand choices for their families with vouchers.

PRRAC’s national catalogue of source of income discrimination laws was one of the sources that Zillow consulted for the new tool. The Urban Institute has also adapted our catalogue in a “State and Local Voucher Protection Laws” online database.

What’s wrong with Westchester? To the dismay of the original plaintiff group in the Westchester fair housing/false claims lawsuit, the federal court monitor for the Westchester consent decree has concluded that “the County has substantially satisfied its obligations under the settlement,” in spite of the county’s repeated failure to comply with the court ordered consent decree, as detailed by the Anti-Discrimination Center in its objection with the federal district court. We couldn’t help but be reminded of Westchester County’s successful scuttling of the NY Urban Development Corporation’s housing integration plans in the 1970s, as recounted in Lizabeth Cohen’s biography of Ed Logue, Saving America’s Cities.
