PRRAC is proud to join with our partners Public Advocates, as well as the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law and PolicyLink, in announcing the launch of CarsonWatch.
Just weeks into the Trump administration, and days into Secretary Carson’s tenure, we’ve seen the following:
Reports of a devastating $6 billion proposed HUD budget cut. Cuts of this magnitude would direct harm our children’s health and future life prospects while also risking the homes of veterans, the elderly, disabled and homeless families. These cuts would also mean that communities around the country would also lose all flexible redevelopment funds, which have enjoyed bipartisan support for decades.
Withdrawal of information collections intended to: help ensure equal access regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, or marital status in HUD’s Community Planning and Development Programs; and support the LGBTQ Youth Homelessness Prevention Initiative.Executive orders directing federal agencies, including HUD, to heedlessly slash regulations; and an executive order directing federal agencies to exclude people who are not citizens or permanent residents from Privacy Act protections, prompting the ACLU to send a warning letter to the agencies, including HUD.
Threats by the Administration to cut funding – including community development funds – to sanctuary cities.
Past statements by Carson likening fair housing protections to “social engineering” and “top down” interference, betraying his lack of understanding of HUD’s longstanding civil rights mission.
Thank you for your support.
