Affirmative Marketing in the LIHTC program: As the Low Income Housing Tax Credit, our largest low income housing development program, expands into more “high opportunity” communities, it will become increasingly important to prioritize fair housing marketing practices so that low income families in segregated areas have real access to these apartments. Our new reportAccessing Opportunity: Affirmative Marketing and Tenant Selection in the LIHTC program, looks in detail at existing HUD rules on marketing and tenant selection, explores how they could be improved, and makes recommendations on what the Treasury Department (which oversees the LIHTC program) needs to do to provide guidance to states and to housing developers/managers.
