PRRAC Update (January 24, 2013): Honoring Chester Hartman; HUD’s transportation policies

January 24, 2013 by

Honoring Chester Hartman: We are proud to report that the National Low Income Housing Coalition is honoring PRRAC’s Director of Research (and former Executive Director), Chester Hartman, with the Cushing N. Dolbeare Lifetime Service Award at their national conference awards reception on Tuesday, March 19 at 6:00 at the Washington Court Hotel. Please save the date and register now!  The recipient of the other annual award from the coalition, the Edward W. Brooke, III Housing Leadership Award will be Senator Olympia Snowe (R-ME), a housing champion who recently retired after 18 years in the U.S. Senate. (p.s. if you are planning to come on March 19, please let us know so we can look for you there).

Department of Education neglects to include school diversity again: With other members of the National Coalition on School Diversity, we joined a formal comment letter critiquing proposed guidelines for the “Investing in Innovation” competitive grant program. Although the Department approved “school diversity” as a general grant criterion two years ago, we have been frustrated by their failure to include it in their major competitive grant programs.

PRRAC – Poverty & Race Research Action Council

The Poverty & Race Research Action Council (PRRAC) is a civil rights law and policy organization based in Washington, D.C. Our mission is to promote research-based advocacy strategies to address structural inequality and disrupt the systems that disadvantage low-income people of color. PRRAC was founded in 1989, through an initiative of major civil rights, civil liberties, and anti-poverty groups seeking to connect advocates with social scientists working at the intersection of race and poverty…Read More
