Future housing mobility programs: HUD just released housing mobility planning grants to 25 PHAs, modeled on the services provided in the Community Choice Demonstration. In several of the regions in this grant announcement, families with Housing Choice Vouchers are dramatically concentrated in high poverty neighborhoods, giving some urgency to these planning grants, and underscoring the need for more implementation funding from Congress, from state legislators, or private philanthropy.
Impacts of the Brown decision on Black teachers – outside the South and border states: As part of their ongoing examination of the unjust, punitive loss of Black educators in the wake of school desegregation, a new report by the National Coalition on School Diversity attempts to shed light on a missing piece of this history: what happened in Northern states. Read Professor Zoë Burkholder’s new report, which is also a story about the Great Migration: “The Impact of Brown v. Board of Education on Black Teachers Outside of the South, 1934-1974.”
Leadership transition at PRRAC: After 20 years at PRRAC, I will be stepping down as Executive Director later this year!
