May 13, 2016 by

Congressional briefing on school integration:  PRRAC is assisting the National Coalition on School Diversity (www.school-diversity.org) in organizing a Hill briefing next Thursday on the Obama Administration’s new school integration initiatives – with Congresswoman Rosa Delauro (CT), Congressman Mark Takano (CA), NAACP Legal Defense Fund President Sherilynn Ifill, UDC Professor John Brittain, University of Texas Professor Jen Holme and more!  Thursday, May 19th at 2:00 at the Cannon House Office Building.  Please join us if you are nearby: register here.

More AFFH developments:  We joined the Lawyers Committee and other coalition partners in a formal comments suggesting modifications and improvements in the proposed HUD Assessment of Fair Housing (AFH) tool for state governments.  We are also in the process of reviewing a separate proposed AFH tool for public housing agencies. See our state AFH comments here.

AFFH in New England:  PRRAC is joining the Open Communities Alliance (CT) in Hartford for a regional AFFH conference and training for participating jurisdictions, advocates, and community based organizations in CT, NY, MA, and RI.  Thursday, June 9th, co-sponsored by the University of Connecticut School of Law. With keynote address by Betsy Julian from the Inclusive Communities Project in Dallas!  More information and registration here.

Our Neighborhoods: Asian American & Pacific Islander Anti-Displacement Strategies:  Excellent report from the National Coalition for Asian Pacific American Community Development (National CAPACD) and the Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement (CNHA), with positive examples of anti-displacement strategies in high cost cities around the country, including some innovative ideas for small business protection and housing options for multi-generational households – see the report here.  For more anti-displacement strategies see PRRAC’s resource page.
