Health Affairs Health Policy Brief

KEY POINTS:
- One of the key pathways through which housing affects health is residential segregation by income and race.
- Several housing policies attempt to address residential segregation. These policies tend to intervene either at the person level or at the place level, or to combine these approaches.
- There is robust evidence on the efficacy of many policies in combating residential segregation.
- Unfortunately, the evidence is often mixed: most policies have yet to achieve truly consequential gains in the fight against residential segregation. Some of this has to do with limited resources and attention.
