“Tegeler, of the Poverty & Race Research Action Council, believes the Housing Choice Voucher is one of the best social safety nets in the country for low-income families that need housing.
“‘I think if it’s well-run, it can provide housing choices for low-income families that are much broader than what families can obtain through other government subsidy programs for sure,’ he said. ‘It’s the only program that really provides a choice for a family in the private market.’
“‘The Housing Authority provides other services that housing advocates support including interim recertification when a resident’s income changes and expedient inspections to speed up the time between approvals and move-ins.'”
